When to go Newzealand

Situated in the southern hemisphere almost directly opposite Great Britain means our weather fortunes contrast accordingly - in our winter it is summer there.

The South Island and its vast mountain ranges mean that the west coast in particular enjoys more than its fair share of rain, but can also be great for skiing.

However, although the rain may still follow you in the north the winter weather tends to be much kinder and less cold.

It is the summer months between December and February that are the most popular times for visitors and sunbathing on beaches is at a premium.

But those willing to risk the shoulder seasons of October and November and March and April should still enjoy good weather and hopefully avoid crowds.

Because of its isolated position surrounded by more than a thousand kilometres of sea New Zealand has a maritime climate that can also be blustery.

The capital of Wellington is not called the 'windy city' for nothing and visitors should be aware that weather, just like in Britain, can sometimes be quick to change.
